New Yelp Review!

NEW YELP REVIEW!!!! o Gretchen R. o Chicago, IL 8/6/2014 Peter McCarthy, who specializes in older buildings, is the only electrician I would use for our vintage condo. We've had Peter and his team complete three jobs in our unit : a new pendant for our entryway, track lighting for the hallway, and pendants, cans, and under-cabinet lighting for our kitchen. He does impeccable work, as does everyone on his team, and they clean everything up at the end so that it doesn't even look like they were there. The one drawback: it will make you want to upgrade the lighting (and everything else) in your place! THANK YOU GRETCHEN! You are right, it does make you want to upgrade all the lighting in your place. And in MY place too! |

It must be "Report Card Day!" Report Date: August 27, 2012 Member: Drew & Jeanette A 35xx S King Dr. CHICAGO, IL 60653 Categories: Electrical Lighting Services Performed: Yes * More Weight is given to a report where work has been completed. Work Completed Date: July 25, 2012 Hire Again: Yes Approximate Cost: $1,384.00 Home Build Year: 1880 Description Of Work: 1. Installed net new light fixture in kitchen (cut new hole, ran conduit and wiring, installed new wiring box and switch, hung fixture);2. Replaced a light fixture and installed ceiling medallion over bar; 3. Repaired/rewired doorbell4. Installed a new combination phone/internet outlet in study (cut hole, ran wiring, installed new wiring box and outlet);5. Replaced 4 outlets in study (replaced white outlets with brown, to match wood paneling); 6. Moved thermostat to new location; 7. Replaced a light fixture and fan in the bathroom (cut out and remove old fan unit, and replace with new fan & light). Member Comments: Peter came out and did an estimate, and advised us on our options and the best ways to accomplish what we were trying to do (main challenge we had was how to brighten a dark area in our kitchen, though we had numerous straightforward projects in the project, too). He also did a good job setting expectations that our work would involve cutting open several walls, and that we might have to alter our plans if we encountered obstructions behind the walls. Although it took a little longer than we would have liked to set up the initial appointment (due to the heat wave in July Peter was especially busy), once we got engaged, Peter was very responsive and communicative. He turned around his proposal shortly after coming out to estimate the work, and he began work shortly after that. We were especially appreciative of him fitting us into his schedule on such short notice because we had painters working on our house simultaneously, and we wanted to get the electrical work finished before the painters left, so they could patch and paint any areas where we had to cut open or drill holes into the walls for the electrical repairs. Peter's crew was courteous, professional, and quick, getting the work done in 2 - 3 days. They were very careful with our house and belongings, and installed all the fixtures, outlets, wiring, and switches precisely, lining them up perfectly with existing switches, or centering/placing them exactly where we wanted them. All the lights, fans, internet and phone lines, and doorbell repairs worked perfectly. We did have one surprise on the job: We had originally wanted to install recessed lighting in our kitchen over the bar, but when Peter's crew drilled a pilot hole to see if there would be enough room for the cans, they discovered an air duct blocking the way. They helped us come up with a "Plan B" that involved installing a wall sconce on the soffit over the bar instead. That worked out fine, and adds a nice look to the room as well. We had used Peter McCarthy Electric once before and had been very pleased with his work. Happy to report that he's still doing excellent work. We're very pleased with his service, accountability, professionalism, knowledge/skill, the pride that he and his crew take in their work, and the personal touch Peter shows with his customers, such as by sending us a hand-written note thanking us for hiring him. New 4 Star Review on Yelp!

Here is a new review that I found on Yelp this morning. Very nice to find such kind words on a Monday morning.
8/27/2012
I highly recommend
Peter McCarthy Electric Co.. Peter's extensive experience and knowledge
served my condo and me well when what was believed to be a simple
outlet replacement turned into a major investigation into the ancient
and faulty wiring behind the walls. His expert and prompt action
alleviated a very dangerous situation. He was also very helpful and
patient, being proactive about working with the high-rise building
management to get the proper permissions to access and work in the
building and my unit. Above all, he is fair, honest, trustworthy and
just a good cheerful person to work with. When I need electical work
done in the future I will call on Peter McCarthy Electric first, for
ease and for peace of mind. Thanks Laurie! |
Yelp Review

Here is a recent Yelp review from one of out very lovely clients on South Calumet Ave. THANK YOU!!! Category: Electricians Neighborhood: Hyde Park 7/29/2012 We are extremely happy and satisfied with Peter McCarthy Electric! We first met him three years ago when we needed wiring for additional recessed lighting in our kitchen and living rooms. I called Peter McCarthy (by way of Angie's List) and got an appointment for him to come and give us an estimate. We were in a hurry to finish this work as we were also doing a lot of other larger projects in preparation for the arrival of our twins, which could be started only after we finished the electrical end of things. I gave Peter five stars right on that first day when he showed up not just on time but ahead of time. I explained to Peter about what needed to be done. While talking, I realised that he was completely booked for the next month with large projects in Hyde Park. However, Peter agreed to start the work within two days, in between projects and only asked that we be a tad flexible since he and his team would have a sporadic schedule. Peter and his associate, Matt, made sure that the work was done in a timely manner. They were extremely professional, respectful and left the areas clean with no hint that they had been there! After they finished that project, we had some other smaller ones that arose throughout the years. I emailed them again without any hesitation and most recently a few weeks ago to add an outlet in our children's closet to keep things as cord-free as possible in their room. Peter and his team are consistently a pleasure to work with and fair in pricing... I have had a lot of good but a few bad experiences with my other contractors during several remodeling processes throughout the years. But there is no doubt one can definitely learn about professionalism from Peter McCarthy Electric. Thank you Peter and your team! I always glowingly refer you guys to our neighbours/friends for any electrical needs! |
